The enhanced WLTP electric driving range of the new Mercedes-Benz eSprinter is anticipated to be up to 248 miles, or up to 310 miles based on the WLTP city cycle. This is a significant increase over the existing eSprinter’s combined WLTP range of 82 to 95 miles.
The new 113 kWh battery is responsible for the improvement, however 56 kWh and 81 kWh batteries will also be offered. The batteries don’t contain cobalt or nickel thanks to the lithium/ion phosphate (LFP) cell chemistry, and active thermal control works to ensure optimal effectiveness.
The new eSprinter panel van, which will debut in the USA and Canada in the second half of 2023, will go on sale in Europe at the end of 2023. It is a long wheelbase panel van with a high roof, a load capacity of 14 cubic meters, and a gross vehicle weight of up to 4.25 tonnes. Also, the new eSprinter will have a towing capacity of two tonnes.
Three modules will be used to build the new eSprinter. All available models can use the front and back modules, with the battery being located in the underbody of the front module. The electric motor and electrically-driven back axle will be included in the rear module.
The electric motor, according to Mercedes, is more effective than the one found in the existing eSprinter. It comes in two power outputs, 100 kW or 150 kW, with a maximum torque of 400 Nm.
The new model can be charged at rapid charging stations up to 115 kW, which enables a 10% to 80% charge for the 56 kWh battery in about 28 minutes and for the 113 kWh battery in around 42 minutes.
Depending on the volume of traffic and the geography of the route, the new eSprinter shows the range in real time. Also, it decides the best charging strategy to employ in order to arrive at the desired location as quickly as possible or to have the necessary battery charge level when there.
With Mercedes me (Mercedes App) the eSprinter will also be able to initiate a charge automatically without the need for manual payment.
