Tesla, the pioneering electric vehicle manufacturer, has unveiled significant changes to its Supercharger network across the United Kingdom, aiming to enhance accessibility and affordability for all electric vehicle (EV) owners.
With over 1,400 Supercharger devices spread across 140 sites in the UK and Ireland, Tesla’s infrastructure expansion underscores its commitment to facilitating electric mobility. As part of its ambitious plans, the company strives for an impressive 99% uptime across its network, with 42 sites now accessible to any EV equipped with CCS charging capabilities, boasting a total of 477 chargers.
Effective from April 13, Tesla has rolled out a revamped membership model for Supercharger network users, accompanied by reduced pricing for all EV owners. Under the new framework, monthly membership fees have been slashed to £8.99, down from £10.99, offering a cost-effective solution for frequent users. Additionally, Tesla introduces an annual membership option at £90 per year, presenting a 16% discount compared to the monthly plan.
Crucially, non-Tesla EV owners opting for the annual membership can take advantage of member rates for Supercharger usage, marking a significant step towards fostering inclusivity within the charging ecosystem. Active members will automatically benefit from reduced fees, while ensuring a seamless and integrated charging experience.
Tesla emphasised that non-members can still access Supercharging services at stations open to all EV drivers, with charging rates regularly updated to ensure affordability and efficiency. This strategic move aims to democratise access to fast-charging infrastructure, promoting widespread adoption of electric vehicles across the UK.
According to Zapmap data, Tesla’s Supercharger network commands a substantial market share in rapid and ultra-rapid charging, trailing closely behind InstaVolt. The latest figures, compiled at the end of March, reveal Tesla’s 1,376 Superchargers alongside 1,495 InstaVolt devices, reaffirming the brand’s dominance in the fast-charging landscape.
Globally, Tesla’s Supercharger network remains unparalleled in scale, boasting over 14,000 chargers across 1,100 locations in Europe alone. Remarkably, 70% of this expansive network is open to non-Tesla EV’s, reflecting Tesla’s commitment to advancing electric mobility on a global scale.
With these sweeping changes to its Supercharger network, Tesla reinforces its position as a frontrunner in the electric vehicle industry, spearheading initiatives to accelerate the transition to sustainable transportation and reshape the future of mobility in the UK and beyond.
