Polestar, the Swedish electric performance car brand, has unveiled groundbreaking charging technology developed in collaboration with extreme fast charging company StoreDot. This innovation promises to redefine the electric vehicle charging experience, rivalling the time it takes to refuel a traditional combustion engine car with diesel or petrol.
The new battery technology, pioneered by StoreDot, enables an astonishing charging time of just 10 minutes for EV’s equipped with Polestar’s advanced battery packs. In a recent demonstration, a Polestar 5 equipped with a 77 kWh battery pack achieved an 80% charge in just 10 minutes, marking a significant milestone in EV charging technology.
Key to this breakthrough is StoreDot’s extreme fast charging high energy silicon-dominant battery cells, which offer unparalleled energy density and charge rates. Silicon-based cells have the potential to propel further advancements in battery technology, paving the way for even faster charging speeds in future generations of EVs.
Dr. Doron Myersdorf, CEO of StoreDot, hailed the collaboration with Polestar, emphasising the importance of extreme fast charging (XFC) technology in accelerating the widespread adoption of electric vehicles. He highlighted the transformative impact of this breakthrough on the EV ownership experience, eliminating range anxiety and enabling drivers to travel long distances with the same ease and convenience as traditional petrol-powered vehicles.
