Ford Set To Launch Affordable EV Range

Ford is set to revolutionise its Electric Vehicle lineup with a new platform designed by a former Tesla engineer, aiming to produce some of the most efficient and affordable EV’s in the market. This new architecture could serve as the basis for successors to the popular Fiesta, Focus, and Puma models. The first vehicle from this platform is expected to debut between late 2026 and early 2027.

Ford’s Model E division that has produced vehicles such as the Mustang Mach-E has emphasised affordability as a key goal, noting the importance of competing in the budget-friendly EV segment while maintaining profitability. The company’s shift towards more affordable EV’s is critical to attracting a mass audience, especially with smaller vehicles becoming a focus due to cost-sensitive drivers.

The new platform, currently in development, will likely feature cost-effective lithium iron-phosphate (LFP) battery technology, known for its durability and affordability. This is part of Ford’s broader strategy to contend with the growing competition from affordable EV makers like Tesla and Chinese manufacturers.

Ford’s new approach aligns with a growing trend toward premium, yet affordable, smaller EVs. While the Puma and the recently launched Explorer mark a departure from traditional models like the Fiesta, Ford’s future vehicles will be uniquely positioned within their segments, prioritising efficiency and design innovation.

As the company moves towards a smaller, more targeted portfolio, this shift reflects Ford’s strategy to transform its brand image from “cheap and reliable” to a more premium offering in the EV market. The upcoming EV platform is a crucial step in Ford’s journey to electrification, signalling a new era for the automaker.
