With a remarkable (WLTP) driving range of 319 miles, Hyundai has added a new all-electric Kona to their lineup.
The new Hyundai KONA Electric “B-SUV” has a starting price of £34,995 and offers two battery options; standard (48 kWh) and long range (65 kWh). The 48 kWh battery is only offered with the Advance trim level and the 65 kWh battery is available in all trim levels.
The new KONA has grown in size, which is certainly the biggest development. The new model has a wheelbase that is 60mm longer and is 145mm longer (now measuring 4,350mm in length). The biggest advantage of this is a noticeable increase in cargo space, which is now 466 litres in comparison to the previous model’s 332 litres (or 1,300 litres vs. 1,114 litres with the rear seats folded). However, the additional 77mm of rear legroom is also a noticeable gain.
The long range 65.4 kWh powertrain offers 218PS and 255Nm compared to the standard range 48.4 kWh powertrain’s 156PS and 255Nm. With a higher DC rapid charging capabilities of 102.3 kW compared to the previous generation’s maximum of 75 kW, the new KONA Electric also offers clients faster AC charging alternatives. There is a 10.5 kW 3 Phase AC onboard charger built in.
A heat pump is a standard feature on all new KONA models, with the goal of minimising the impact of cabin heating in cold weather on the vehicle’s range.
The KONA is available with a Digital Key, which can be used to lock, unlock, and start the vehicle using a compatible device (smartphone or smart watch). It boasts standard dual 12.3-inch panoramic display screens with complete Over-the-Air (OTA) updates.
Price for the 48 kWh battery in the new KONA Electric Advance trim level starts at £34,995. Ultimate trims for the 65 kWh battery start at £43,095. pricing for N Line trim start at £40,395 for the 65 kWh model, while pricing for N Line S start at £43,095 for the same model.
