The ID.7 is VW’s newest addition to their ID line up and provides more competition in the saloon EV market represented by popular EV’s such as the Hyundai Ioniq 6, Polestar 2 and Tesla Model S, the original marquee saloon.
The Volkswagen competes with the Model S in terms of efficiency, on-road refinement, and comfort in addition to its abundance of technology. The ID.7 is built on the same MEB chassis as all other ID models, including the ID.Buzz, which is surprisingly a little bit shorter than the 4.96-meter ID.7.
VW claims to have achieved a drag coefficient of just 0.23 with the ID.7’s aerodynamic form, giving it a range of up to 382 miles and making it one of the most effective EVs currently on the market. The Pro S option, which boasts an 86-kWh battery and may help the ID.7 pass the elusive 700-kilometer (435-mile) mark for official WLTP range. The reported peak charging capability is a 10 to 80 percent DC rapid charge in 30 minutes with the 170 kW battery. However, it appears that the Pro S can reach speeds of up to 200 kW. AC charging is courtesy of an 11kW onboard charger offering up to around 35 miles of charger per hour with a 3 Phase charging point and 24 miles of charge per hour with a 1 Phase 32A charging point.
The VW ID.7 has more interior space than competitors like the BMW i4 and Tesla Model 3. The ID.7 offers rear passengers a limo-like experience with plenty of room, a few USB-C charging sockets, and climate control as standard. The boot is a very roomy 532 litres, has a sizeable hatchback opening and some practical underfloor storage where you can store your charging cables.
The ID.7 sedan model will be the first to be produced and orders will be accepted in the UK summer 2023 and the United States in 2024. It will undoubtedly challenge EV’s such as the Kia EV6, BMW i4, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6 and the Tesla Model 3, Model Y, and Model S. Pricing is expected to start at roughly £55,000 ($68,010).
