The Type 2 to 3 pin chargers and 2 pin chargers listed below are compatible with all Type 2 socket EV’s. Also known as home chargers, granny chargers and emergency chargers, they can be used to charge an EV with any 16A (2 pin Euro) or 13A mains socket.
This means that in the UK, you can charge anywhere there is a 13A 3 pin socket. If you are charging in mainland Europe, you can charge an EV using a 16A 2 pin Schuko socket, which is the most commonly used socket in Europe.
Which 3 Pin Charging Cable Should I Buy?
The fixed amp charger will charge your EV at a fixed power of 10A. It is only recommended for occasional / emergency use with a 3 pin mains socket. The exception is where an electrician has assessed and certified a 3 pin mains socket as suitable for using a fixed 10A charger to regularly charge your vehicle.
If you are going to use a 2 pin or 3 pin charger regularly to charge your vehicle, we recommend the adjustable amp charger.
The adjustable amp charger functions like a charging station in that it allows the current to be adjusted and includes a built in Type B RCD, so it is more suitable for charging your EV at a location where the 13A socket used has not been checked by an electrician. The amp setting can also be adjusted manually, making it suitable for use with solar power or charging the vehicle at a lower current. There is also a timer that allows delayed charging, so it is useful if you want charging to commence during off peak electricity hours.
Please note that we only sell chargers that are limited to 10A, which is the recommended rate for charging an EV with a 13A socket. We will not sell a 3 pin charger that provides the full 13A as this significantly increases the risk of your mains socket overheating.
You can select a 2 pin or 3 pin charging cable from the list below. If you are not sure if your EV has a Type 2 socket, select the make and model of your vehicle below to view a list of compatible 3 pin chargers.
