Charge A Type 1 Socket Electric Vehicle With A Home Wall Box Or Public Charging Point
Our Type 1 charging cable will provide your EV with the maximum current that it can accept. You can charge any PHEV/Hybrid or full electric vehicle with a Type 1 socket. You can connect the cable to a Type 2 socket charging point such as a wall charger or a public charging point. Commonly known as the Type 1 to Type 2 cable.
It does not matter if the Type 2 socket charging point is 3 Phase or 1 Phase because the charging point will work out how much current your vehicle will accept and how much current the cable can handle. This cable can therefore be used with ALL Type 2 charging points with an open socket.
This cable is not an extension cable. You will therefore not be able to use it to connect the Type 2 male plug to the Type 2 female plug of an EV cable or charger. It is therefore not suitable for charging points with a lead already attached. You can only insert the plug directly into the socket of a Type 2 charging point.
Choosing the Right Type 1 Charging Cable
Is My EV Type 1?
The socket of a Type 1 vehicle has 5 holes and will charge your vehicle up to 7.4kW. This is of course dependent on the charging capacity of the vehicle.
Our cables can be used with any AC (Alternating Current) charging point. These are wall chargers and the free charging points that you will find at supermarkets and retail parks, for example.
Is The Type 1 Cable Suitable For My EV?
Vehicle Compatibility
Our 32A Type 1 to Type 2 cables conform to the IEC J1772 standard, which means that they are compatible with a Type 2 charging point and any Type 1 socket vehicle.
The cable is capable of carrying up to 7.4kW current. However, the cable will only provide 3kw if that is the maximum charging capacity of your PHEV / EV. So, the Type 1 charging cable cable can be used with any Type 1 socket vehicle.
Some Type 1 socket vehicles will also have a CHAdeMO charging socket. You do not need to buy a cable to use this socket as all charging points that support CHAdeMO will already have a cable attached to it.
A CHAdeMO socket will allow an electric vehicle to be charged using a DC rapid charger. The CHAdeMO socket accepts Direct Current (DC) to charge the vehicle and can support speeds up to 400kW. However, Type 1 vehicles in Europe are more likely to charge up to 50kW, which is still more than 10 times faster when compared to the average speed of a Type 1 to Type 2 charging cable.
Use our EV Cable Finder to locate your EV / PHEV so you can check if your vehicle has the Type 1 socket.
Choice Of Cable Bags
We provide a free canvas cable bag (suitable for cables up to 10M) to store this charger when not in use. You can also upgrade the bag to a cable case made from EVA material for enhanced waterproofing and impact protection. The EVA case has an elasticated strap in the bottom compartment and elasticated mesh pocket in the top. So it allows convenient storage of two cables. The EVA case can therefore carry 2 cables if each cable does not exceed 10 metres length (20M total length).
