Use A 380-415V 16A CEE Socket To Charge A Type 2 Socket EV Up To 11kW
The Type 2 to 3 Phase 16A CEE charger can deliver up to 11kW of current, depending on your electric vehicle’s charging capacity. The CEE socket is also known as the Commando socket and industrial socket.
The charger’s compatibility does not depend on your EV/PHEV/Hybrid being able to handle 11kW. It is the vehicle that dictates the maximum current drawn from the EV charger. If your vehicle accepts between 3kW to 22kW and has a Type 2 socket, you can use this charger.
Adjust the charger’s current settings to 8A, 10A, 13A, and 16A, with the chosen setting retained for subsequent charging sessions. If you require a 16A 3 Phase charger for use with a PV system (solar panels) at 6A, read on for information regarding our multi-adapter charger.
Is This 16A 3 Phase CEE EV Charger Suitable For My EV / PHEV?
Choosing The Right Charger
The 16A CEE plug will be compatible with your industrial CEE socket if it is 3 Phase 16A, so please check that your CEE socket has 5 pins and states “16A” or “16” on the socket. If your socket is 3 Phase 32A, you will need the 32A CEE charger. For EV charging, it’s important to ensure the power socket is suitable. Therefore, we recommend a qualified electrician to certify that both the socket and supply are suitable for EV charging.
The EV must also have a Type 2 socket to use this charger. The majority of electric vehicles sold in Europe have a Type 2 socket. The vehicle will either have a 7 hole socket for AC charging, or a 9 hole CCS socket. CCS stands for Combined Charging Socket because it combines the sockets required for AC and DC charging. The Type 2 cable is designed to fit into the 7-hole upper chamber of the CCS socket. So if your vehicle socket has 7 holes or 9 holes, it is Type 2.
If you are still not sure, click the button below to locate your EV / PHEV and this will confirm if your vehicle is Type 2. Please also check the information at the top of this page, “Please Read Before You Buy”, to help avoid the most common reasons for returning a charging cable.
Do You Want A Charger With Multiple Adapters?
If you’re in search of an EV charger that is compatible with various power sockets, then consider our multi-adapter charger. The charger supports charging from both 1 Phase and 3 Phase sockets, and provides a current range of 6A to 32A.
This charger allows connection to a variety of outlets. For instance, the 3 pin and 5 pin Commando sockets, the 13A mains socket, and the 16A Euro (Schuko) socket. You have the flexibility to choose the specific adapters you need for your charger. Furthermore, it incorporates a charging timer, enabling charging to start anywhere from 1 to 10 hours after being plugged in. When using the 3 pin UK plug adapter, the charger will automatically select a safe 10A charging mode.
For a detailed breakdown of the maximum currents provided by the multi-adapter charger when used with different adapter/power outlets, refer to the table below:
Adapter & Outlet | Max kW |
---|---|
3 Phase CEE 32A | 22kW |
3 Phase CEE 16A | 11kW |
1 Phase CEE 32A | 7,4kW |
1 Phase CEE 16A | 3,7kW |
UK 13A | 2,2kW |
Schuko 16A | 3,7kW |
The maximum current displayed in the above table will not necessarily align with the current that the EV/PHEV can accept. In other words, the vehicle can only accept up to the maximum current of its onboard charger (OBC).
EV Cable Bag And Case
We provide a canvas cable bag (suitable for cables up to 10M) to store this charger when not in use. The bag can also be upgraded to a cable carrier case made from EVA material, which has improved waterproof and impact protection. The EVA case has an elasticated strap in the bottom compartment and elasticated mesh pocket in the top to allow convenient storage of two cables. The EVA case can hold two cables, provided each cable is no longer than 10 meters (with a total combined length of 20 meters) and is neatly wound. You can replace the canvas cable bag with an EVA case by selecting the option available in the basket or on the checkout page.
